Lincoln
sixth grade students soared during the Reach for
the Stars expedition! They
completed many astronomy activities including reading
myths and stories about the constellations. Each
student then drew a picture of their favorite
constellation.
They
continued to launch their learning through the completion
of a research paper and project on a topic of their
choice. All students built a rocket and had the
opportunity to test their engineering skills by firing
it off, which many thought was out of this world!
But
the real highlight was participating in a moon mission
simulation at the Challenger
Learning Center of Des Moines where students
had to work as a team to return to the moon (see below).
As
part of Expeditionary Learning, students completed a
service project through the American Trust & Savings
Bank "Reach for a Star" program. Each classroom
chose a star with an elderly person's name on it from
our community. They raised money to purchase a special
holiday gift for that person.
Definitely
a highly successful learning mission for the sixth grade
students!
